Wisconsin man sentenced 22 years for drug, weapons charges in La Porte County

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The United States Attorney’s Office Northern District of Indiana announced 30-year-old Maurice Williams, of Milwaukee, was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute 50 Grams or more of a Substance Containing Methamphetamine and Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Williams was sentenced to 22 years in prison followed by 4 years of supervised release.

Case documents show La Porte County deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on Williams which led to a high-speed police chase.

The chase lasted for 13 miles before he crossed into Michigan. Later he drove back into Indiana where he crashed into the back of a semi-trailer.

Williams then fled the scene on foot, documents state.

Authorities searched his vehicle and found a loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine, 52 grams of cocaine, 50 grams of fentanyl, and 190 grams of methamphetamine.

Court documents show Williams’ criminal history includes a felony drug trafficking conviction, which prohibited him from possessing a firearm.
