CHARLES CITY, Iowa -- Jared Cook received a big thank you Friday for helping his friend who had been struck by lightning.
Two years ago, at just 8-years-old, Cook helped his friend who was struck by lightning on a fishing trip.
"I saw some people in a truck and I kept trying to get up. And then, finally the fifth time I got up and walked towards it, towards the truck. They asked if I needed help or anything, then they called 9-1-1 after they seen Gunnar," said Cook.
Cook's school and the Iowa State Patrol set up a special assembly in his honor.
The Iowa State Patrol presented Cook with a letter recognizing his courage and school leaders presented him with a super hero shirt.
