19-year-old charged after gunshot detection in Michigan City

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- At approximately 11:25 p.m. on Jan. 18, officers received a Flock Raven gunshot detection alert from the 1100 block of West Fourth Street.

The Flock Raven system contains a series of devices placed throughout the City of Michigan City that are designed to detect the
sound of gunshots and the approximate location they originate from.

Upon arrival, responding officers encountered 19-year-old, Michigan City resident, Terrion Wright. 

Officers followed Wright’s footprints that were left in the fresh snow cover before locating a spent ammunition cartridge and loaded firearm within his path of travel.

Upon further inspection of the firearm revealed a conversion device was attached to it which is commonly referred to as a “switch”.

Wright was taken into to custody and charged for Operating a Loaded Machine Gun, a level four felony and Criminal Recklessness with a Dealy Weapon, a level six felony. 

Wright is now booked in the La Porte County Jail with a $20,000 bound.
