34-year-old man charged with Promotion of Sex Trafficking

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports a 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a criminal investigation.

Authorities say on Jan. 12, a woman and her 13-year-old niece came into the sheriff's office after the teen had received inappropriate messages from an adult man.

A detective then interviewed the woman and teen, leading to a criminal investigation.

The report states the detective applied for and executed several search warrants during the investigation.

Evidence obtained identified the suspect as Joseph A. Yaw.

On Feb. 17, investigation findings were forwarded to the La Porte County Prosecutor's Office.

Probable cause was found and a felony arrest warrant was issued for Yaw on March 9.

On Friday morning members of the Warrants Division and Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force took Yaw into custody in La Porte.

Yaw was then taken to the La Porte County Jail on charges of Promotion of Sex Trafficking, a Level 3 Felony, Child Solicitation, a Level 5 Felony, and Inappropriate Communication w/a Child, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Yaw remains in LCJ and is being held on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
