BENTON HARBOR, Mich – Benton Harbor is using footsteps as a call to action to improve safety.
The peace walk is the second event in two weeks to bring attention to the violence in the area.
“We can no longer sit back and do nothing, they need us, they are our future and right now we are failing this generation” Benton Harbor native Dushon Isom said.
As recently as two weeks ago there was a night of violence that saw three shootings within a few hours.
Benton Harbor Mayor Marcus Muhammad said the peace walk is one of many events to bring attention to and eventually start a conversation about solutions to the violence.
Benton Harbor Commissioner-at-large Edward Isom said the effort will continue until Benton Harbor sees results.
“We’d like to continue doing this through the peace walk, through communication with the residents and bringing the word out to the people” Commissioner Isom said.
