BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – A man is dead after being struck and killed by a vehicle while walking along U.S. 12 late Friday night.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department says at approximately 10:19 p.m., deputies responded to the area of U.S. 12 and Weaver Road regarding a pedestrian that had been hit by a vehicle.

The victim was identified as 46-year-old Michael Gaertner of Buchanan.

According to deputies, Gaertner was taken to Lakeland Hospital in Niles where he died from his injuries.

This incident is still under investigation.
