South Bend Police Department holds free car seat safety checks
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department held a free car safety check in partnership with Beacon Health to help keep local kids safe on the road during Seat Check Awareness Month.
Officers at the SBPD garage on West Sample St helping parents properly install their child stats and even checking for potential recalls.
The officers and technicians also checked each seat for all of its parts as missing parts could be extremely dangerous. Technicians say that families should avoid using seats when they can't confirm the seat's history and condition.
Wendy Conlin, the certified child passenger safety technician instructor says, "We do not recommend that children use seats that are used from like a garage sale or hand-me-downs that they're unsure if the seats have all the parts and pieces, or get them out of dumpsters or anything like that",
