UPDATE: Missing Cass County child found dead

UPDATE TWO:   Cass County officers responded to a report of a missing 16-year-old boy with autism who had wandered away from his camper at Willow Shores Campground on US 12 in Porter Township. The family realized he was absent from their trailer, prompting a dispatch at 9:04 a.m.

Search efforts included law enforcement and rescue teams from the Southeast Public Safety Authority, Cass County Sheriff Marine Division, Porter Township Fire Department, and Indian Lake Fire Department, who searched both land and water of Baldwin Lake. Assistance was provided by K-9 Britton, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office Drone Team, and a MedFlight helicopter. K-9 Britton signaled that the boy had gone into Baldwin Lake. A drone located him underwater around 3:25 P.M., and the dive team recovered his body, confirming he was deceased. The investigation is ongoing.

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in finding a missing child. Kyle McMannis, a 16-year-old male, is 5’5" tall and weighs about 100 pounds. He is non-verbal and autistic.
