Elkhart Jazz Fest kicks off successful start to weekend

The first day of the popular Elkhart Jazz Festival happened Friday afternoon.

Over the next 3 days more than 100 performers are set to take the stage in Elkhart this year.

This is the 29th year for the festival which brings jazz fans in from all over the world.

Organizers with the Community Foundation of Elkhart County say it takes months to plan this festival.

"I like the music and just gave me something to do for the weekend and got started when they had the old hotel down here and just kept up with it as many years as I could get here,” said Bill Schmidt,  a Production Volunteer.

Some of the headliners include Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, Joshua Redman, and The Larry Hanks Trio.

Friday’s music is set to wrap up at midnight and will continue through Saturday and Sunday.
