Elkhart resident still battling with storm damage one month later

NOW: Elkhart resident still battling with storm damage one month later

ELKHART, Ind. --- Last month many residents in Elkhart woke up to damage, after an early morning storm. We told you about a woman, dealing with drooping powerlines in her driveway and today the issue still isn’t fixed.

“We still have power. I think that’s why we’re not getting help," said Sharon Johnson.

Lowered power lines and broken trees are just some of the lingering damages still being felt for Elkhart residents near County Road 15.

For Johnson, she’s been dealing with a drooping power line in her driveway that’s causing major headaches since she runs a daycare and the line, makes things tough for parents, picking up their kids.

“It’s been an inconvenience for us getting in and out of our house and daycare parents will block another parent so you know they have to wait to be able to get out and 4 weeks it’s been long enough," said Johnson.

Johnson says there’s confusion on who actually owns the line so no one is taking responsibility for repairs.

“We’re with comcast so frontier isn’t even our company to deal with, but they have the lower line. I understand comcast has the top line. So whoever replaces the pole each company has to come fix their own line," said Johnson.

We’ve reached out to I&M, Comcast, and Frontier to see who owns this line, but have not heard back yet. We’ll continue to dig into this and let you know once we know more.
