Elkhart restaurant issues apology, creates website after online ordering confusion
ELKHART, Ind.—The Golden Egg Pancake House has issued an apology and will launch a new website after facing potential legal action for incorrectly linking their Facebook page to a restaurant in South Carolina with a similar name.
The confusion began when customers arrived at Golden Egg Pancake House to pick up orders they had placed on the restaurant’s website.
However, until recently, Golden Egg Pancake House did not have a website.
Golden Egg Pancake House was served a letter of intent to file legal action if they failed to remove information from their Facebook page that mistakenly linked to a different restaurant based in South Carolina, also named Golden Egg.
According to Golden Egg Pancake House, the error occurred due to Facebook’s algorithm that automatically builds a page based upon customers who “check-in” to the restaurant on Facebook.
“We are very sorry for any inconvenience that was created over the Facebook page that was created automatically. It was not our intention to have people deceived. We are making every attempt to make sure this is rectified quickly,” Golden Egg Pancake House said in their apology.
Golden Egg Pancake House is also reminding customers that they still do not have online ordering at this time, but customers can call in to place an order or use the restaurant’s drive thru window.
The restaurant is planning to launch a new website and Facebook page.
