Groundbreaking for phase two of ’The Cascade’
ELKHART, Ind.-- Faith Mission and city leaders cut a ribbon Friday to officially open the “Graber House,” new transitional housing for families.
The transitional shelter near downtown Elkhart will provide seven two-bedroom and four three-bedroom units for families in need.
Families are expected to stay roughly one year and will get access to programming to help the families find steady housing and work.
"Our goal is, no matter where the parents are, our goal is to so the kids are not in poverty,” said Ross Swihart, executive director of Faith Mission of Michiana. “So, if we can give parents building blocks and things that they can implement, just a few things, what it does is it exponentially grows the success rate on those children."
The total project to reopen the building was around $1.4 million all the way down to the furniture in the units.
The first families will move in this January.
