Family of Michigan City Double Homicide victim demand justice
MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The family of Eddie Nixon is demanding justice, following frustrating delays from court.
Eddie Nixon was 67 years old, his family describes him as a Godly man who loved music. On October 19 of 2025, he was murdered in a double homicide in Michigan City.
Nixons’s finance — Slyvia White, 77 — was fostering a 14-year-old at the time. The foster child is accused of killing both Nixon and White in their home, and proceeding to steal a car and commit theft at a local church.
The family said the documents regarding the child’s previous family placements are sealed, but they were warned that the child was dangerous.
“They warned the people not to take him in, but the organization sent him to them anyways,” said Wesley Scully, President of NAACP Michigan City. “To a single black woman under 100 pounds. And he was 230 pounds.”
The family is pushing for the suspect to be charged as an adult.
“Every crime he committed, it’s adult crime, "Said Dennis Nixon, Eddie Nixon’s brother. "Every morning I wake up and look at my phone, he used to call me about four o’clock in the morning. Just looking for a missed call.”
The family believes the prosecution is showing racial inadequacy towards the suspect.
“They’re trying to humanize him and given the history of America. There’s a sense of a double standard here,” said Scully. “We had a young man 11 years old, shot somebody in the leg. And they took him straight to adult court. Of course, he was African American. That’s the difference.”
They believe if the victim was white, the suspect would be immediately moved to adult court and not given any of the benefits from juvenile detention.
Felicia Blakely, Eddie Nixons Niece
“Why isn’t he walking in here shackled up by the hands, shackled up by the feet,” said Felicia Blakely, Eddie Nixons Niece. “Basically, if you get good behavior while you’re in JDC, there are certain privileges.”
The La Porte County Prosecutor’s Office has not yet made the decision to try the suspect as an adult. ABC57 reached out for an update but have yet to hear back.
“We just want justice for Eddie, justice will be done,” says Ora Robinson, Eddie Nixon’s sister. “Even if we have to just keep doing it for the rest of our lives.”
