SOUTH BEND, Ind. – South Bend's emerald gem, Fiddler's Hearth, opened its doors to a flood of people at 11 a.m. Sunday morning and didn't close their doors until 11 p.m. thanks to a full evening of St. Patrick's Day celebrations.
A staple of South Bend, Fiddler's is celebrating their 21st St. Patrick's Day by emphasizing the traditional side of the Irish holiday.
Owners Terry and Carol Meehan hope to create a public house style atmosphere that mirrors the feel of an authentic Irish pub.
"Every village has a church, and they have a pub. And the pub is like the community living room.” said Carol Meehan.
Hundreds flowed in and out of the pub Sunday to hear live music, dance, drink and try out classic Irish dishes.
Cincinnati resident, Michael Bybee, traveled more than five hours just to celebrate St. Patrick's Day at Fiddlers.
"Me and my lad over here were back in Cincinnati having pints back home and said ‘You know what? Let’s go spend St. Patrick’s Day up in South Bend, let’s go see Fiddler’s and have a good time!'”
Celebrations lasted throughout the day and into the evening, not slowing down until the pub closed for the night.
While St. Patrick's Day may be over, Fiddler's hopes to keep their holiday-like spirit throughout the year.
