Firework rules for South Bend

Independence Day is Saturday, and South Bend wants everyone to be mindful of fireworks rules:

  • Anyone 18 and older can purchase fireworks
  • Fireworks may not be lit in public places without a permit from the State Fire Marshal and local Fire Chief
  • If you light fireworks, you are responsible for picking up debris on your own private property.  If debris lands on a neighbor's property, you would be in violation of the law.
  • Corporate residents in South Bend can only ignite fireworks between 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on June 29, 30, July 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9.
  • On July 4th, fireworks can be ignited between 10:00 a.m. and 12 midnight.

If you are in violation of any of these rules could face a fine of $100 for the first offense.
