LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The fourth annual Sand Sculpting festival wrapped up Sunday morning in Michigan City, as over a dozen master and semi-professional sculptors put their creations to the test on the famous "Singing Sands" of Lake Michigan at Washington Park.
They began creating their sculptures on Friday.
The event also featured live music and local vendors.
City staff tells ABC57 the Sand Sculpting Fest also serves as a way for more people to get out to Michigan City and enjoy all it has to offer.
"Having an event like this is huge for our community," says Terry Greetham, Michigan City Director of Special Events. "It brings people to Michigan City and shows them our beautiful beach. I think we have one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It's great to have people come out, whether they're local, to experience it, or all the tourists that are coming into Michigan City for the weekend."
The festival also featured a community challenge, where 11 local organizations competed against each other and donating $1,000 to a non-profit of their choice.
