UPDATE: Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita announces lawsuit against St. Joseph County Police Department
Deputy Attorney General Aaron Ridlen, an attorney for Rokita in this case, provided representation in defending Verheye in separate litigation.
The notice states the case has not moved for months, but there was recent docket activity.
This all comes as Verheye has yet to accept or deny her special appointment.
ORIGINAL STORY: ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Another St. Joseph County judge has been named to hear the sanctuary city lawsuit filed by the Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita against the St. Joseph County Police Department.
This comes as three other local judges recused themselves due to potential conflicts.
Rokita sued the department and Sheriff Bill Redman in January, claiming SJCPD does not cooperate with federal immigration agents and ignores ICE detainer arrests at the county jail.
Redman publicly denied those claims and asked the court to dismiss the case, but without a judge in place, no ruling has been made yet.
