Free Youth Garden Art Club at Unity Gardens

Unity Gardens

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Unity Gardens is hosting its Youth Garden Art Club on Thursday, May 23, from 4 to 5 p.m.

This is one of multiple events happening on Thursdays, with this event's activity having the children paint rocks.

The program is free, but organizers say you must sign up ahead of time, so they have enough supplies. You can find the form here.

Unity Gardens says nature can spark children's creativity, and foster imagination, and these events are a place where kids and their families can participate in fun crafts using materials from the gardens.

Organizers add that some sessions will include outdoor activities, so be sure to bring weather appropriate clothing, sunscreen, water, and clothes/shoes that can get messy.

Below you can find the full list of remaining Youth Garden Art Club events:

Thursday, May 23: Painting Rocks

Participants will paint rocks to use as plant markers in the garden. Club members can also make kindness stones that say positive messages.

Thursday, May 30: Bottle Cap Windchimes

Using found materials from around our community, participants will make windchimes using a combination of recycled materials, wood, string, and your imagination.

Thursday. June 6: Fairy Gardens

Participants will get to use natural materials such as bark, moss, twigs, flowers, and more to create flowerpots fit for a fairy to live in. Sometimes, elves, gnomes, and other tiny whimsical creatures use these little gardens as well.

Thursday, June 13: Bug Hotels

Organizers say they love making native insects feel at home at Unity Gardens. What better way to invite beneficial bugs to your property, than to build them their very own bug hotel.

Thursday, June 20: Stepping Stones

Participants will use old broken dishes, buttons, bottle caps, shells, rocks, and more to create cement stepping stones for your family garden. You can add letters, handprints, and let your creativity run wild. This club session will require pick up later due to the need for overnight drying. Dress for a mess.

Thursday, June 27th: Bird Houses

Staff members will assist your child in building their own bird house. They will get to decorate it to their personal preference.
