SOUTH BEND -- A widespread freeze this morning ended the growing season across Michiana.
Low temperatures this morning ranged in the 30s, and most areas reported frost.
A freeze occurred in areas south of the state line, except for South Bend.
Areas near and south of US 30 saw the coldest conditions. Winamac reported temperatures in the upper 20s, so a hard freeze even happened for some.
South Bend only cooled down to 35 degrees, so just shy of a freeze.
Areas closer to Lake Michigan also avoided a freeze as temperatures stayed in the mid to upper 30s.
Otherwise, the cold this morning was cold enough to harm plants and vegetation across Michiana.
A freeze this time of year is not unusual. In fact, the first freeze usually does occur on October 17th, so right on time.
The National Weather Service will no longer issue anymore frost or freeze headlines for the remainder of the season now that the growing season is over.
