Celebration in Buchanan, grand reopening of downtown
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – There will be a basketball tournament held at Buchanan High School on February 23 to remember and honor the life of Avery Brown who was killed in a shooting at a Mishawaka bar in 2018.
The Avery Brown Basketball Classic will take place at Buchanan High School. It is already too late to register for the tournament, but anyone can attend.
The tournament will remember Avery Brown, who lost his life in a shooting at Bleachers in Mishawaka, a bar and restaurant that shut down following the incident.
Along with the tournament, there will be a rally showing support against gun violence.
On September 21 in 2018, 28-year-old Avery Brown was identified as the victim in a shooting at Bleachers. He was shot at close range in the bathroom.
U.S. Marshalls later arrested Timothy Mayberry in South Carolina, who was the suspect in Brown’s murder.
Mayberry was later found guilty of murder and sentenced to 75 years in prison.
