Governor Eric Holcomb announced in a press conference Wednesday that he signed an executive order requiring Hoosiers to wear a mask when out in public beginning Monday, July 27.
The executive order will require face coverings for anyone 8 years old or older in the following places:
- Public indoor spaces and commercial entities
- While using public transportation or other vehicle services such as a taxi or ride share
- Outdoor public spaces when it’s not possible to socially distance from people not in the same household
Students in 3rd grade or above will be required to wear face coverings. Staff, teachers, volunteers and anyone else at schools will also be required to wear face coverings.
There will be exceptions for exercise, eating, drinking or if you have a medical condition that prevents it.
Violations will be a class B misdemeanor, but he said there won't be any 'mask police' enforcing the order.
The actual order has not been posted to the state website.
