SOUTH BEND, Ind.--- People living in South Bend will be hosting a 'reverse parade' for South Bend School Corporation graduating seniors on Saturday. The parade starts at 1 p.m. and will celebrate the class of 2020.
"A group of us decided that we wanted to do something special since they’re missing out on so much this year," said Kristina Berg, an organizer for the parade.
After a few phone calls and Facebook posts a community wide effort was launched to celebrate the class of 2020. "When they started talking about it, it meant a lot to us as teachers to give them something special," said Chris Berg, Kristina's husband.
Different neighborhoods are assigned a South Bend school and each house is asked to decorate accordingly to celebrate that school's graduating class. Then on Saturday, seniors can drive by as community members wave and cheer them on from their houses.
"I think it’s awesome," said Berg. "I think everyone’s joining together to let them know that it’s not forgotten and that we want to celebrate with them."
