Heavy snow this afternoon, melting begins later this week
A winter storm warning remains in effect until early Tuesday morning for Berrien County in Michigan and La Porte, Starke, St. Joseph, and Marshall Counties in Indiana. A winter weather advisory for Cass County in Michigan and Elkhart, Kosciusko, Pulaski, and Fulton Counties remains in effect until early tomorrow morning as well. Plan on a messy morning commute with accumulating snow on roadways and a prominent northerly wind that will keep visibility limited to around a mile near Lake Michigan. The snowfall weakens substantially in the middle of the day as the lake effect backs toward Chicagoland and Illiana, but we likely will see a new band of snow develop over western Michiana beginning around 1-2 PM ET this afternoon. Snow showers will become increasingly widespread through the rest of the evening and overnight before eventually tapering off early tomorrow (2-6 AM ET). Several more inches of snow are possible in the second band later today and tonight, especially in communities along or west of US-31.
Temperatures get above freezing today and tomorrow, eventually climbing to the 40s and 50s by the end of this week. Once the snow is done Tuesday, there is no more wet weather in the forecast this work week.
