The Indiana Department of Natural Resources wants a trail within five miles of every Hoosier within three years.
The director of Outdoor Rec says trail demand and funding have gone up.
The West Lafayette city engineer says they have added to major road projects to help improve the quality of life and help connect people to the city.
"It's a simple thing to incorporate if you're doing a whole brand new road," said David Buck, West Lafayette city engineer. "Given the backbone network that's already there, it would be a shame to not keep adding to it."
He says the goal is to connect more current trails in the area.
