ISTEP scores released: 58 percent of South Bend students pass

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Spring ISTEP scores are out and it’s positive news with three consecutive years of gains in all subject areas. That is reflected in scores at local schools, but there is still plenty of room for improvement.

One South Bend school even drew state recognition. It is dubious, yet well-earned recognition, nonetheless.

After four years with an “F” rating and on the verge of state intervention, Dickenson Middle School has seen bigger gains than any other middles school in the state.

And in doing so, highlighted what may be a solution to solving a nationwide problem.

ABC 57’s Jason Aubry reports.
