SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The La Casa De Amistad Community Center hosted their Ready Set School event Saturday where they were able to give out over 1,100 backpacks and over 8,000 school supplies to local students.

Amazon was the main sponsor for the event, donating $30,000.

The CEO of La Casa de Amistad, Juan Constantino, says it's a great opportunity to give back to the community before school starts back up.

"La Casa de Amistad has been in this community for 52 years now. We're certainly a pillar for our Latino, Hispanic and immigrant community, but for our families throughout this entire region. So, whether it be this event with school supplies or backpacks, or through our social services, with rental assistance, utility assistance and or navigation of other social services. La Casa is here to serve our community, especially in some of the most difficult times that they may come across," says Constantino.

The event also had free food, face painting, and free immunizations for kids heading back to the classroom.
