Man arrested for driving the wrong way while drunk

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A 25-year-old man was arrested after allegedly driving in the wrong direction on US 35 Saturday, Feb. 21, while drunk.

The 25-year-old Connor Schell has been charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Person, Operating a Vehicle with an ACE of .08 or More, Driving the Wrong Way on Posted One-way Roadway, and Operating with Expired Plates as misdemeanors.

According to the La Porte County Sheriff's Office, Schell was driving north in the southbound lanes of US 35 Saturday, Feb. 21 in a 2018 Dodge 1500 pickup.

During a traffic stop, Schell showed several signs of possible intoxication, through field sobriety tests and portable breath tests as well as with what a deputy noted as the odor of an alcoholic beverage and "red and glassy" eyes.

Schell agreed to a chemical test and was taken to La Porte County Jail, where the certified test returned with a 0.147 BAC.

Schell was furthermore described as being "respectful and cooperative" throughout the process.

Schell's initial hearing was held on Monday.
