Man shot on Fremont Street identified

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Investigators have released the identity of the man who was shot Wednesday afternoon in the 1900 block of Fremont Street.

South Bend Police were called to Memorial Hospital around 5 p.m. in reference to a shooting victim.

Officers were also dispatched to the 1900 block of Fremont Street to investigate reports of shots fired.

The shooting victim, 23-year-old Henry Turner, was rushed into surgery for treatment of gunshot wounds, police said.

Because of the severity of his wounds, the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit was activated.

Detectives say Turner was shot on Fremont, but no arrests have been made.

Doctors stabilized Turner and he is expected to survive.
