NOW: Martin’s Super Markets giving back to local schools and organizations

SOUTH BEND, Ind.-Next time you head to the grocery store, don’t throw away those labels! Instead of putting them in the trash, you can use them to help support local schools and organizations.

The “Direct Your Labels” initiative by Martin’s Super Markets benefits preschools, K-12 schools, school-sponsored programs, community service or non-profit organizations. It allows participating groups to earn cash while collecting any “Our Family” or “Spartan” brand product U-P-C barcodes.

There are nearly 2,000 products to choose from like cans of soup, frozen foods and coffee.

“Everybody knows that there is a lot of need in the schools and a lot of extra things they’d like to be able to do, but don’t have to money,” said Barbara Levan, Community Affairs Supervisor at Martin’s. “Hopefully a program like this can help them earn even a few hundred dollars and every little bit helps,” Levan said.

For every 500 barcodes collected, the participating group will receive a check for $25.

There is no limit to the amount of money each school or organization can receive.

To get started collecting labels, make sure your non-profit is a 501c3. Each organization must fill out a registration card that you can get online or at any Martin’s customer service desk. Attach a completed W-9 Tax ID form and send it in. You can find the registration card and submission instructions HERE.

Once you’re registered, get shopping! Tell your members of your group and their families to look out for Spartan and Our Family brand products.
