New resort and marina to open up near Benton Harbor

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — By this time next year, Harbor Village, a brand new resort and marina, will be opening in the Benton Harbor and St. Joseph area.

The multi-million dollar project has been in the works for awhile, but construction has finally started.

The project is bringing hundreds of jobs to the area and will attract tourists from all over the world.

"The whole idea is to bring together waterfront living and the community," said Greg Weykamp, president of Edgewater Resources. "A project like this normally takes three to five years to get off the ground. We're just about a year into it."

Project managers say the plan is to have it up and running by the senior PGA tour that will be held in Benton Harbor again in 2014.
