Out of control brush fire in Niles Township

NILES TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Fire crews battled an out of control brush fire this afternoon on Walton Road.
The fire was reported around 12:30 p.m. at 2230 Walton Road, between the bypass and Old 31.
It took fire crews from several agencies at least an hour to get the fire under control.
The fire started as a controlled burn that got out of control.
Winds at the time were out of the SSW at 10-20 m.p.h.
At least 17 acres were burned, no homes or businesses were in the path of the flames; no one was injured.
