Police, bomb squad investigate suspicious package at South Bend apartments

SOUTH BEND, Ind.—South Bend Police were called to an apartment complex on Monday regarding a suspicious package.

Police were called to the Prosper apartment complex near E. Jefferson Boulevard and S. Rue De Ville Street for reports of a suspicious package around 1:20 p.m.

The bomb squad was called to the scene, according to law enforcement officials. 

Residents were evacuated from the nearby apartments. 

Witnesses at the scene said that the incident started near a dumpster at the apartment complex.

Around 5 p.m., police reopened the area and said that officials had mitigated the suspicious package.
