Police looking for posing utility workers

The St. Joseph Township Police Department along with other departments are investigating multiple cases where criminals are pretending to be utility workers.

The criminals have shown up at homes asking to check electrical boxes in homeowner's basements. Once they are allowed inside, they have access to valuables and belongings, all the while people think they are doing legit work.

The criminals police are trying to locate are believed to be driving an unmarked white van. Police say they typically show up in a pair, one goes inside while the other stays outside. If you go inside, sometimes the second person will also and attempt to steal personal items.

Police want to make people aware that any legit utility worker will have proper identification and marked vehicles when they show up to houses.

If you find yourself in a similar situation, try to get a detailed description of the suspects, their vehicles, and call police immediately.
