EDWARDSBURG, Mich. -- The two people killed in a crash in Edwardsburg Wednesday evening have been identified.
Police say the driver was 27-year-old Joshua Kilian of Elkhart. His passenger was 30-year-old Nickole Lynn Nichols, also from Elkhart.
Around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, the Ontwa Township - Edwardsburg Police Department responded to Elkhart Road, just north of Redfield Street, for a vehicle crash.
Their initial investigation finds the truck was heading northbound on Elkhart Road when it went off the road, hit a power pole, then hit a large stump and eventually flipped over back onto the road. The vehicle then caught fire.
Kilian and Nichols were trapped inside.
Police say they are still investigating what caused the crash.
A woman who lives near the accident scene said several neighbors rushed outside to try and put the fire out before police arrived.
Anyone with information about this incident or any other crime is urged to contact the Ontwa Township - Edwardsburg Police Department at 269-663-8444.
