South Bend Fire Department opts for standard state merit board
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Police officers across Michiana will be hard at work looking for drunk drivers on the road this New Year's Eve.
Law enforcement will be out patrolling the streets to make sure those who are celebrating the New Year, do so responsibly. If you are planning on drinking, have a game plan. It can be as easy as calling a taxi, so you and others can make it home safely.
When you’re ringing in the New Year, whether at home or out with friends, police are urging everyone who's going out tonight, to plan ahead, so you won't get behind the wheel while intoxicated.
If you are planning on drinking, you should have a designated driver, use a ride-sharing service like Uber or Lyft, or even have a friend's parent pick you up. Just never get in a car with someone who has been drinking.
Media Liaison with the South Bend Police Department, Christine Karsten said it’s all about smart choices, and planning so no one gets hurt.
“One bad choice, especially if you get behind the wheel, while intoxicated, you can end your life, but you can also end someone else's life. So, we need to make those decisions in 2020 when we have things like uber so accessible to us. Nobody should be getting behind the wheel.
