Preparations underway as Indiana University football trophies comes to South Bend
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Indiana University Athletics officials announced that it will bring the program's football championship trophies from the 2025 season to IU South Bend's campus.
This will include trophies for the College Football Playoff National Championship, the Big Ten Championship, the Rose Bowl, and the Peach Bowl, as well as Ben Mendoza's Heisman trophy and the Old Oaken Bucket.
The event is happening Thursday, April 2, from 4-7 p.m. It'll be in the Fireside room in the University Grill, located in the Administration Building at 1700 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Parking is available in the Esther Street lot on the west side of campus.
At Indiana University East and Indiana University Northwest saw turnouts of 450 to 1,200 people and Indiana South Bend anticipates a stronger turnout, especially from alumni and students.
Rob DeCleene, IU South Bend Vice Chancellor for University Relations states, " all going to be in one area, one area, you know, probably like three different tables behind the stanchion, so you're not gonna be able to touch them or anything like that, but you get close enough for some good photo ops and whatnot, and we'll have somebody here to take pictures of the visitors with their phones."
The viewing for the trophies will open an early for students and as a reminder, if attendees are in line by 7 p.m., they will have the opportunity to get to see the trophies.
