President Biden joined the United Auto Workers' picket lines today in Detroit--becoming the first sitting president to be on a picket line.
The picket lines were formed against the "Big 3" automakers: GM, Ford and Stellantis.
The U.A.W. is demanding wage increases, 32-hour work weeks, cost of living adjustments, a return to traditional pensions and healthcare coverage for all retirees.
President Biden, the self-proclaimed most pro-union president, has been active in supporting the U.A.W., stating that auto companies have seen record profits, but "those record profits have not been shared fairly, in my view, with those workers,' according to CNN.
The White House makes it clear that despite the visit they are not involved in the negotiations.
Former president Donald Trump is set to speak to current and former U.A.W. members in Detroit tomorrow.
