Safety class for new gun owners

Statewide, more and more people are sending in application for personal protection permits and it’s why the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department is holding new classes to train people to use firearms.

It’s called the “home and personal defense” firearms class and if you’re interested in registering there’s a few things you’ll need.

Applicants are required to provide their own handgun and at least 100 rounds of ammunition.

According to KCSD, the initial class will consists of two dates, one on Tuesday night and the other on Thursday night.

On Tuesday night, students will learn about the safety and handling of pistols and then on Thursday, KCSD says there will be actual range application for fundamental pistol techniques.

A recent increase in protection permit applications, both statewide and locally, led the KCSD Firearms Division to implement this brand new class.

If you are interested in registering you can contact Lt. Wiesehan at 574-265-2221 or email him at [email protected].
