SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Officers of the South Bend Police Department went above and beyond with assisting an animal rescue that was transporting more than 30 dogs from Kentucky.
Heartland Small Animal Rescue in South Bend was on its way back to town when a van crashed into them in Lafayette.
After the crash, supplies were needed to take care of the dogs.
SBPD employees organized a supply drive, collecting, blankets, towels, collars, and leashes, after officer Dan Kurz and his wife learned about the accident.
Officer Kurz and his wife also decided to foster two of the dogs involved in the crash.
