NILES, Mich. – Several local organizations are giving back to the community with the help of a Secret Santa holiday food basket from Shelton’s Farm Market in Niles!

Each box contains fresh produce, fruit punch and other holiday essentials.

Food boxes were also distributed to Brandywine Community Schools, Niles Community Schools, the Ferry Street Resource Center and the Salvation Army.

Many are saying that this is important because everyone should have food for the holidays.

“One of the families — she said that it allows me to be able to provide for my family for Christmas this year,” Brandi Zoll said, a counselor at Niles/Brandywine Community Schools. “It’s one less thing she had to worry about. One of them said it’s a big relief. Being a single mom, money is really tight for her so doing a Christmas dinner was something that she wanted to be able to do for her family but she wasn’t sure how she was going to make that happen.”

“There are just so many families in our community that we may not even realize are in need of help,” Kendra Hixenbaugh said, a Corps Officer with the Salvation Army. “At the Salvation Army, we see people in their time of need especially at Christmas just so worried that their kids aren’t going to have something for Christmas and not be able to celebrate with a good meal.”

The box provides enough food to feed a family of four for at least a week.

A total of 75 boxes were distributed by Shelton’s Farm Market. Customers can also purchase a food box for $28.99, which will go to a family in need.
