After closure in 2020, YMCA reopens in downtown
ELKHART, Ind. – Sidewalks on Lexington Avenue and Main Street in downtown Elkhart reopened after a neglected building was demolished.
Portions of the sidewalk were closed for over a year. After years of monitoring, the City of Elkhart determined that the building was structurally unsound.
Because the building posed a safety risk to motorists and pedestrians, the City hired Jackson Demolition Services in September to demolish it.
The City is also seeking to recuperate all the costs of monitoring and demolishing the structure from the owner.
