South Bend Empowerment Zone partners with Department of Education for new program

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The South Bend Empowerment Zone has partnered with the Indiana Department of Education to pilot a professional learning initiative designed to help educators improve their classrooms.

The K12 Lift program will help educators improve instructional materials through the use of data that analyzes classroom success.

The data will be used to answer questions like whether certain interventions are working and if students most impacted by COVID-19 are catching up in the classroom.

The program looks at course grades, attendance data, state assessments, and local progress monitoring to inform teachers and principals on how students are doing academically.

Teachers will also meet in teams to discuss what does and doesn't work in their classrooms.

K12 Lift has been used in several districts in Florida over the past five years.

The Department of Education will sponsor the $300,000 program in South Bend over the next two years.
