St. Joseph County PD reports busy night after New Years
St. Joseph County Police Department ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Police Department announced a more-than-busy night ending Thursday morning, involving 66 calls for service, two vehicles hitting police cars, and a call for assistance with an officer-involved shooting.
According to the St. Joseph County PD, the department responded to at least 66 calls for service between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday.
About half of these calls involved a crash or a slide-off, due to what the department calls "some of the slickest road conditions we've seen all year."
Two marked police cars were also struck while working on these crashes, one by a semi and one by a plow truck, though the department says both officers were okay.
Aside from responding to crashes and slide-offs, the department was called to assist with an officer-involved shooting in Mishawaka, leading to further assistance with emergency calls in Mishawaka and helping South Bend officers manage another active shooting investigation.
