Street closures and race routes announced for Sunburst
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Sunburst Races announced street closures and running routes for Saturday’s races, the first of which kicks off at 6:30 a.m. with the half-marathon.
The 10K race follows at 7:10 a.m., the 5K timed race begins at 7:45 a.m. and the untimed 5K and Fitness Walk starts at 8 a.m.
Most road closures will last approximately two hours, and South Bend and Mishawaka police officers will be posted along routes to help direct rerouted traffic.
Sunburst Races Director, Courtney Kipker, is excited for the involvement that the community can have with the runners.
“We invite the community to come out and cheer on the participants along the course, make signs and watch them finish inside Notre Dame Stadium. Those who live on the course can set out sprinklers, play music, cheer and draw encouraging messages on the road with sidewalk chalk. It’s such an awesome community event. And there is still time to register to participate,” said Kipker.
Currently, more than 4,000 people will be participating in Sunburst, which begins at Four Winds Field and ends at Notre Dame Stadium.
