St. Joseph County Jail: John Harrison Ford

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- An 18-year-old has been charged in connection with Wednesday's shooting on Mac Arthur Avenue which left a woman in critical condition.

South Bend police are responded to the shooting in the 2600 block of Mac Arthur Avenue Wednesday evening.

St. Joseph County Dispatch confirms the call came in at 9:50 p.m.

Police arrived to find a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

The woman was taken to the hospital where she later had emergency surgery. She remains in critical condition. The suspect was identified as John Harrison Ford.

Ford is charged with two counts of Attempted Murder Attempted intentional killing of another, Level 1 Felonies, and Armed Robbery-Taking property by force or threatening use of force while armed (Attempt to Commit), a Level 3 Felony.

Police say the shooting occurred during an arranged meetup through Facebook Marketplace.

The probable cause affidavit reveals that the victim's son was selling a watch via Marketplace. Ford had come to the victim's home and met with the victim's son.

The victim's son told police while Ford was looking at the watch, he brandished a gun that he had in his waistband, and said, " I'm a need that s***."

The son said Ford then tried to snatch the watch away from him.

At this point, the son said his mom stepped between the two, before she began chasing Ford away from the property.

The son said Ford then pointed the gun at the porch before firing, at which point he saw his mom had been shot.

Police say surveillance footage was collected from the home which corroborated what the victim's son described. The footage also showed the victim turn around and walk back to the porch after chasing Ford away.

Police say Ford can be seen firing the gun several times towards the victim and the porch before the victim is seen falling to the ground.

Officers also found two live rounds and two spent casings on scene. This evidence was collected and submitted to a Firearm and Toolmark Examiner for examination.

Damage to the back of a pickup truck parked in the driveway was also noted.

Officers later located Ford's firearm near Cedar Glenn Apartments after utilizing other area surveillance footage to track Ford. He was later located, arrested, and interviewed at the South Bend Police Department.

Police say Ford initially denied being in the area at the time of the shooting but later admitted to arranging a meetup to buy a watch through Marketplace.

Ford told police he did bring a gun to the meeting and when he reached for money in his pocket, the victim's son grabbed his arm before the victim got involved.

Ford told investigators he then fired his gun twice before running away. He also confirmed he discarded the weapon afterward.
