Van Buren County man survives hatchet attack
VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- A 51-year-old man from the Kendall area in Van Buren, Michigan, was arrested for allegedly striking a 44-year-old man in the head with a hatchet, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
Reports say deputies were called to the 26000 block of CR388 in the Kendall area of Pine Grove Township Friday around 11 p.m. to investigate reports a man had been assaulted at his neighbor’s home.
According to reports, the two men were drinking alcohol when they got into an argument. The argument became physical and when the victim tried to leave, the suspect struck him in the head with the blunt end of a hatchet.
The victim went home and called deputies.
When deputies arrived, they contacted the suspect by phone and he came out of his home and was arrested on one count of assault with a dangerous weapon.
The victim was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The suspect's name is being withheld pending arraignment.
