ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. –– A 60-game MLB season will surely have its bumps in the road, especially with injuries. The league hopes to avoid roster issues by keeping a 'taxi squad' within 100 miles of each major league team.
South Bend Cubs President Joe Hart said the roster of 23 to 25 players will stay in shape in the case that one or multiple players gets called up. Being that South Bend is within 100 miles of Chicago, the 'taxi squad' for the Chicago Cubs, in theory, could train at Four Winds Field.
“That’s the nice thing about being an affiliate for [the Cubs], they are very familiar with the facility. We got the First Source Bank Performance Center, we kinda have everything they need," Hart said.
