Michiana farmers will see harvest delays due to flooding
MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- Michiana farmers have had a rough year so far, a wet spring and mid may freeze already put them behind the eight ball, and then June brought one of the wettest months on record to the region.
Now it only took a few days into July to get half a foot of additional rainfall, forcing some farmers like Clay Geyer in Marshall County to call in the big guns.
Water pumps trench nearby corn and wheat fields.
Farmer Geyer says the pumps have been going since seven in the morning.
The wheat in his fields is ready to be harvested, but because of this recent rainfall and flooding, it'll be significantly delayed.
The Marshall County line saw a little more rain today, but more heavy rain and storms are possible as early as Thursday, so that doesn't give farmers like Geyer much time to move this massive influx of water.
