PLYMOUTH, Ind. -- Plymouth Community School Corporation confirmed to ABC57 that a letter was sent out on Tuesday to parents and guardians of students at Riverside Intermediate regarding allegations of students making inappropriate images using photos of teachers.

The letter reads in part:

"Recently, we have been experiencing issues with students taking teachers' photos from the Internet and incorporating them with other students, high-profile individuals who have committed serious crimes."

School officials say the altered images are being shared on students' social media pages.

Officials also warned parents that such altered photos may cause serious professional issues for teachers.

Ward Byers, Director of Safety and Security for PCSC, states in the letter, "I am asking each of you to please discuss the seriousness of these actions with your children and the dangers social media poses to our youth."

The district also pointed out that students under 13 are not legally permitted to have social media accounts.
