Residents invited to Cass County public hearing for disaster recovery funding

ABC 57

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- Cass County officials announced a public hearing will be held on Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Cass County Board of Commissioners Chambers so residents may examine and submit comments on the proposed application for a Community Development Block Grant Urgent Need grant.

County officials say the proposed application is asking for $400,000 to support disaster recovery efforts following the March 6 tornado and severe weather that impacted Cass, Branch, and St. Joseph Counties.

The funding would provide disaster case management services through a partnership with After the Storm, including outreach, intake, needs assessments, individualized recovery planning, and coordination of services such as housing, healthcare, employment, childcare, and financial assistance navigation.

Officials say this project is intended to benefit residents across the affected counties, with a priority on assisting low- to moderate-income households, minimum 51 percent, and vulnerable populations impacted by the disaster.

County officials say nobody is expected to be displaced due to the proposed activities.
